Sat, Feb. 27. Naperville, IL. Conquest Lemont Boys Club - Apostolic Adventure.
Conquest Lemont boys and Dads (plus Mrs. Sutkowski) met on Saturday for an Apostolic Adventure. We started at SS Peter and Paul in Naperville for a visit to their Adoration Chapel.
We prayed a rosary for various intentions, including all the Conquest boys and families throughout the country, for all priests, brothers and young people in formation, and for other special intentions. They have a beautiful Adoration Chapel at SS Peter and Paul. If you are in the neighborhood, make an effort to stop in and see for yourself.
After praying a rosary, we drove over to ManorCare in Naperville, only a few short blocks away.
The boys hosted a bowling tournament for the residents/patients at ManorCare in one of their activity rooms. We made so much noise cheering for the bowlers that we had others at the facility come in to see what was all the fun about.
After the residents had their turn, our boys had time to bowl a few strikes of their own. We finished the day with a pizza party and then back home. It was a great day to be out in the community.
Being an apostle for Jesus begins with our efforts to show we are Christians by our love for one another.

Sat, Feb. 13, 2010. Lemont, IL. Conquest Lemont Boys Club -
Catechism Challenge.
Diligence, one of the seven heavenly virtues and our current virtue campaign theme. “Doing my very best in everything I do.”
Father & Son and Junior divisions participated in a Catechism contest this week. Questions focused on knowing some of the essentials: prayers, sacraments and mysteries of the rosary.
Recreation was dodge ball, including for the Junior and Senior divisions, the ever favorite medic dodgeball version. We also introduced a new survivor dodge ball followed by one game of classic survivor.
The seniors learned about intellectual formation while they reflected on the gospel of Luke where the 12 year old Jesus amazed the rabbis in the temple with his questions and interpretation of scripture.
Our 11, 12 and 13 year old seniors were able to relate to Jesus as a boy their age and see the importance of knowing their faith so they can be effective at spreading it.

Fri, Feb. 5, 2010. Lemont, IL. Conquest Lemont Boys Club Skit Competition.
Diligence, one of the seven heavenly virtues and our current virtue campaign theme. “Doing my very best in everything I do.”
The Father/Son Division boys created and presented their own skit about the virtue of diligence. Both squads competed against the others in the club for more Conquest points.
One squad acted out the story of Noah and the Arc. Scott was Noah, Andrew was the voice of God and the other boys played an animal to demonstrate how Noah was diligent in following God.
At each meeting the boys are organized according to age and learn to discipline themselves by standing in line and paying attention to the person speaking.
The Father/Son and Junior Divisions have two squads each and here they are listening to Mr. Skrzypczynski as he explains the diligence lesson.
The boys earn Conquest points for wearing their club shirts and bringing their commitment card to the meeting. They also earn points for correctly answering challenge questions and for other positive behaviors. Points are earned but never taken away in Conquest’s positive reinforcement approach.
The Junior Division’s created skits about diligence including the life of St. Anthony of Padua, Here is the squad with the winning skit of the evening. They created a silent skit to demonstrate the life of St. Anthony, how he was diligent in his devotion to God and how others followed this devotion because of his example.
The Junior boys have learned about diligence through the life of Saint Anthony.
St. Anthony is a loved and admired saint. He was priest in the Franciscan Order because of the death of the five Franciscan protomartyrs -- St. Bernard, St. Peter, St. Otho, St. Accursius, and St. Adjutus -- who shed their blood for the Catholic Faith in the year 1220, in Morocco, North Africa. St. Anthony became a Franciscan in the hope of shedding his own blood and becoming a martyr. St. Anthony was diligent in his work for Christ.
Recreation at Conquest:
Mr. Polivka and Mr. Wood take time out from shooting baskets for a picture. The Father/Son boys play survivor (in the background). Welcome to three new members: Nicholas, Vlad and Matthew.
The Junior and Senior boys organized themselves for challenging game of tug-of-war.

Fri, Jan. 15, 2010. Lemont, IL. Conquest Lemont Boys Club Meeting at
Everest Academy on Bell Road (south of Archer Avenue).
Diligence, one of the seven heavenly virtues and our current virtue campaign theme. “Doing my very best in everything I do.”
Noah and the Arc. The Father/Son virtue lesson.
The Book of Genesis 6-9, tells how God sends a great flood to destroy the earth because of man's wickedness and because the earth is corrupt. God tells Noah, a righteous man in his generation, to build a large vessel to save his family and a representation of the world's animals. God gives detailed instructions for the Ark, and after its completion, sends the animals to Noah. God then sends the Flood which rises until all the mountains are covered and every living thing died. Then "God remembered Noah," the waters abate, and dry land reappears. Noah, his family, and the animals leave the Ark, and God enters a covenant to never again send a flood to destroy the Earth. Noah’s diligence in building the arc meant that mankind and all creatures survived the great flood as God had intended.
St. Anthony of Padua, Doctor of the Church. The Junior Division’s virtue lesson.
Feast day: June 13 b.1195 d.1231. Saint Anthony was canonized (declared a saint) less than one year after his death. There is perhaps no more loved and admired saint in the Catholic Church than Saint Anthony of Padua. Though his work was in Italy, he was born in Portugal. He first joined the Augustinian Order and then left it and joined the Franciscan Order in 1221, when he was 26 years old. The reason he became a Franciscan was because of the death of the five Franciscan protomartyrs -- St. Bernard, St. Peter, St. Otho, St. Accursius, and St. Adjutus -- who shed their blood for theCatholic Faith in the year 1220, in Morocco, in North Africa, and whose headless and mutilated bodies had been brought to St. Anthony’s monastery on their way back for burial. St. Anthony became a Franciscan in the hope of shedding his own blood and becoming a martyr. He lived only ten years after joining the Franciscan Order. St. Anthony was diligent in his love of and work for Jesus Christ.

Club members met at the Sutkowski home on Friday, Dec. 11th at 4:30 p.m. for pizza and gift wrapping before visiting the residents of Hines VA Hospital, Spinal Cord Unit at 5000 S. Fifth Avenue., Hines, IL 60141. The boys sang Christmas carols and distributed gifts.
Everyone was invited to please bring one gift for the residents, such as candy, cookies, socks, Kleenex, food, poinsettias, small Christmas decorations for bedside tables, home-made cards for vets, etc.
Here’s a special thank you to: Mr. Beecher & Mrs. Kilcommons for driving out to help lead the group with Christmas caroling? We met several patients, gave out candy, cookies, and gifts, sang carols and took many prayer requests from patients. The most moving was a woman whose husband is dying from cancer, she just found out she has multiple sclerosis, and they don't have enough money to pay their heating bill. The boys gave her extra presents and assured her that she and her husband would be in their prayers this Christmas season.
Here was another chance for the boys to show their appreciation for the veterans who now reside at Hines VA Hospital. Well done, everyone.

Fri, Nov. 13, 2009. Lemont, IL. It’s a Food Drive! The Senior boys, in the spirit of the Thanksgiving holiday are organizing a food drive to feed the hungry. We have so much to be thankful for:
* If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead, and a place to sleep…you are richer than 75% of the world.
* If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish some place…you are among the top 8% of the world’s wealthy.
* If you woke up this morning healthy…you are more blessed than the million who will not survive the week.
* If you can attend a religious service without fear of harassment, arrest, torture or death…you are more blessed than 3 billion people.
* If you can read this message, you just received a double blessing that someone was thinking of you and furthermore…you are more blessed than over 2 billion people in the world who cannot read at all.
If you are thankful, you can show it. Bring your non-perishable food next week to our club meeting. The senior boys will gather up all the food and deliver it to the Food Pantry at St. Daniel the Prophet parish in Chicago. There will be many families who’ll say “God Bless You” for your generosity. Thank you.
Tonight’s meeting features a Poster competition among the Father/Son and Junior squads. Each squad created a poster that illustrated what they’ve learned during the previous two meetings; the virtue of Honesty. Remember, honesty means telling the truth at all times no matter what.

Fri, Oct. 16, 2009. Tonight was the last session on the virtue of Respect. That’s right, it was time for Catechism Competition. The Father/Son division and Junior division Conquest boys answered questions about our Catholic faith and earned points for every correct answer. You should have been there for how those points added up!
Here Dr. Bautista (Junior Division co-leader), Mr. Pratt and Mr. Gutierrez ask the Junior boys questions in head-to-head competition. Both squads collected their points and we’ll find out who has the most at our Awards Night celebration.
Mr. Drong and the Father/Son division Dads also gave our younger boys a Catechism quiz. All the boys did a great job answering the questions and sharing their faith.
Br. Juan Carlos Vasquez, LC joined our Conquest club meeting this week and worked with the Senior division under the direction of Mr. Kilcommons.
The boys are encouraged to reach higher, to step up to a new level of responsibility in their family, in their school and in their community. They are moving to an age where they can take on senior-level tasks and by working together, achieve bigger project as a team.

Fri, Oct. 9, 2009. The Father/Son division Conquest boys created and presented their own version of the Abram and Lot story in skit form. Both squads reviewed the lesson and then created a little play to show what they’ve learned about respect. At the end of the meeting time both squads acted out their skit in front of the entire club.
Thank you to Mr. Drong, Mr. Beecher and Mr. Dillenburg for helping with the Father/Son boys.
The Junior division boys created their own skits about Our Lady of Guadalupe. Both squads acted out their version of the Juan Diego story in front of the club.
Thank you to Mr. Skrzypczynski, Mr. Bartley and Luke S. The boys did a good job creating and presenting their stories.
The club is getting bigger each week. We had several new boys join us for the club meeting. There’s room for more so be sure to invite your friends to meet you at the Conquest meeting.

Fri, Oct. 2, 2009. The Father/Son division Conquest boys reinforced their lesson of respect about Abram and Lot by creating a team poster. The boys worked together to show the rest of the club what they’ve learned about how Abram respected and trusted God.
Abram became a great man of faith and the father of all God's people. He started out by trusting God's word and following an unknown path. When we refuse to follow God's call for us, we are sacrificing all the wonderful blessings he had planned for us on that path. Thank you to Mr. Hamilton, Mr. Buonincontro and Mr. Gaier for all their help with the Father/Son boys.
The Junior division boys created team posters about Our Lady of Guadalupe. In 1531 a "Lady from Heaven" appeared to a humble Native American at Tepeyac, a hill northwest of what is now Mexico City. Our Lady of Guadalupe made a request for a church to be built on the site, and submitted her wish to the local Bishop.
Mr. Colarelli, Mr. Bruin and Dr. Bautista monitored the boys as they worked to create a poster that will demonstrate what they’ve learned in the club. The other squad was also busy creating their masterpiece poster.
Thank you to Mr. Colarelli, Mr. Bruin and Dr. Bautista for your help.
The Senior boys are also studying Respect and they’re planning an adventure trip to NW Indiana. Mr. Kilcommons is leading these young men toward a greater understanding of their important role in their family and their faith. It’s a great way to grow.
Here are a couple candid camera shots of the boys making their presentations in front of the club. After they finished creating their faith and virtue poster they took the opportunity to share what they had done with the rest of the boys. Finally, the best squads were awarded points for their good work.
Before the Conquest club meeting some families met at Holy Family Villa near Lemont for some time in front of the Blessed Sacrement.
Thank you to the Trochuk family for bringing the snack. Check our club calendar for the upcoming assignments.
Remember to invite your friends and neighbors to join Conquest Boys Club.

CONQUEST LEMONT News 2009-2010
Fri, Sep. 25, 2009. Conquest boys continued their faith and virtue lessons on the theme of Respect. The Father/Son division is studying about Abram and Lot. Abram trusted God, so he obeyed without knowing what would happen. Abram based his decisions on spiritual values. Lot based his on physical values. Abram became a great man of faith and the father of all God's people. He started out by trusting God's word and following an unknown path. When we refuse to follow God's call for us, we are sacrificing all the wonderful blessings he had planned for us on that path. We are also refusing to grow. We don't become strong in our faith until we take the first steps and overcome the first challenges in our lives.
The Junior division boys studied Our Lady of Guadalupe. In 1531 a "Lady from Heaven" appeared to a humble Native American at Tepeyac, a hill northwest of what is now Mexico City. She identified herself as the ever virgin Holy Mary, Mother of the True God for whom we live, of the Creator of all things, Lord of heaven and the earth. She made a request for a church to be built on the site, and submitted her wish to the local Bishop. When the Bishop hesitated, and requested her for a sign, the Mother of God obeyed without delay or question to the Church's local Bishop, and sent her native messenger to the top of the hill in mid-December to gather an assortment of roses for the Bishop.
The Senior boys are also studying Respect and they’re planning an adventure trip. Mr. Kilcommons is leading these young men toward a greater understanding of their important role in their family and their faith. It’s a great way to grow.
Please invite your friends and neighbors to join Conquest Boys Club.

* We booked the morning, hoping not to interfere too much with Holy Week Missions.
If you had a few minutes, you may want to check out this organization, it is pretty phenomenal - www.fmsc.org - click on the informational video - IMPRESSIVE!
The children will receive a "pre-packing" talk about world hunger, and afterwards, they will be told details about the impact they made, and how many children they will feed from their 2 hr of work. There are only 3 of these sites in the country - schools are bringing their children in by the droves to experience this - for prime times, you need to book a year in advance. I've booked 40 spots, but there are still 50 available during our time slot.

Lemont, IL - Friday, Oct. 17. The Conquest Lemont Boys Club met at Central School gym for the third meeting of the Integrity campaign. Remember integrity is steadfastly adhering to high moral principles. It is standing up for what we believe is right. The virtue of integrity involves basing actions on an internally consistent framework of principles; a consistency of actions, values, methods, and principles. We must form our conscience so that our principles are consistent with God’s plan for our lives. When making decisions we can ask: “what would Jesus do”.
DICKSON VALLEY is next weekend. Don’t forget to sign up for the Dickson Valley weekend retreat. There’s fun for everyone, including obstacle course, scavenger hunt, rope bridge over the stinky pond, campfire, Mass every day and plenty of Dads on hand to help out. The retreat is like a super Conquest meeting plus much, much more. The boys will be organize into squads with fun competitions and great prizes. Register today so that you don’t miss out on this fun weekend. Bring your Dad if you can, maybe he’ll tackle the rope bridge?
In less than three short weeks our Conquest club will visit Conquest Lincolnway to take on the Frankfort boys in a head-to-head Catechism Competition. We must defend our last victory. Boys practice the questions (you can find another set on our club website under Newsletters) on your way to school and back, after you’ve finished your homework or challenge your brothers and sisters to a family competition. Practice, practice, practice...
Thank you to everyone who worked at St. Mary Slovenian Mission in Lemont last Saturday. Fr. Metod very much appreciated all the hard work, the church was cleaned and pews polished like never before. The boys and Dads vacuumed in new corners, the kneelers are as clean as new, the choir loft is loftier and Pledge was in the air; maybe still in the air. Good work, boys! You are truly servants of the Church.

Special guest speaker, Jennifer Wilsterman, from Daybreak Center spoke to the boys and parents about homelessness; that homeless people are a lot like you and me. The most common age of a homeless person is 9 years old! She brought along a display of photos and really engaged the boys. The boys had several questions and gave several suggestions as to what they can do to help the homeless such as provide them with food, clothing, monetary donations, etc.
Daybreak will be the focus of our apostolic activity on November 14th. A big thank you to Ms. Wilsterman for coming out.
Club President, Don Jonker encourages each member to work on his Home Points worksheet between now and the next meeting. Parents can the worksheet to help guide their son toward God and toward being a more holy boy.

Lemont, IL - Friday, Sept. 26th members of Conquest Lemont Boys Club met at Central School gym for the first club meeting of the year. The boys were eager to get back to their club and see their friends again. Several boys were new to the club and many more boys are invited to join. During the first 6 weeks, the boys will learn about the virtue of Integrity. Take a look at campaign verse Psalm 101:6. Memorize the verse if you can.
The Father/Son boys learned the story of Noah from the Old Testament; how God told Noah to build an ark for his family and for the animals of the earth. Noah did what God wanted him to do even though it was not the popular thing to do. God kept Noah, his family and the animals safe from the flooding waters that covered the earth for many days.
The Junior Division boys are learning about St. Martin de Porres. St. Martin was an African man who learned to be a barber and man of medicine. He was known for his charity for the poor of his time even when he was criticized by the others around him. St. Martin was a very generous man who dedicated his life to God and to the many needy people of his day. He cared for them and invited others to care for the sick and the poor.
The ECYD-age boys started their own program across the hall with Mr. Sutkowski and Br. Juan. These 11-16 year old boys are learning about God and how they can best serve Him. They will learn about teamwork and being more effective working in a group to accomplish big things for God’s Church and for the community.
During the evening the boys enjoyed a story by Fr. Branigan Sherman. Fr. Branigan told the boys how jumping into 6 feet of freshly fallen snow is like jumping into God’s hands. He is there for us and wants us to be safe with him. Fr. Branigan really like to ski with his brother when he was growing up. The boys also played dodgeball and competed in a series of foot races; all for important Conquest points.
Club President, Don Jonker gave each member his own membership card and Home Points worksheet. Both are means of helping the Conquest member to grow in virtue. Parents can use both tools to help guide their son toward God and toward being a more holy boy. You are invited to go to the club website to print more copies of the Home Points worksheets. Families can work on the points together and the club member can bring his worksheet to the next meeting and earn more points for his team.
More members are welcome to join Conquest Lemont Boys Club. The program offers strong lessons of faith and virtue. Moms and Dads, please pass on this flyer to anyone who wants a son to know God, to love God and to serve God. Conquest Lemont is dedicated to forming boys to become Catholic men of integrity and service.

Perseverance is commitment, hard work, and endurance. During our final virtue campaign the boys have been learning about how to preserve in big and small things.
Our final meeting of the year featured an Awards Night celebration with two special guest speakers. Fr. Joe Noonan, Vocation Director for the Archdiocese of Chicago was on hand to share some insights on what it means to be a priest today. Young men who have a vocation to the priesthood show their perseverance in serving God and His church.
Harry Kokolus, former Dallas Cowboys place kicker, coached by Tom Landry and Mike Ditka, shared his thoughts about what it means to preserve, to work hard and show commitment. Mr. Kokolus was hurt early in his professional career and endured to become a successful business man.
During the awards portion of the evening, our club recognized the extra efforts of many club members during the past six weeks. Kevin and Mark I. taught a lesson about St. Patrick to the Junior Division boys. Michael R. and Chris W. taught about Sampson and the Midianites to the Father/Son Division.
We also recognized the club members who helped the Easter week missions: Patrick and John K., Connor and James P., Luke and Nicky D., Luke and Francis S., David D. and Tyler G. all helped bring Jesus Christ to the people of Chicago during Holy Week.
Our final award went to the Able squad from the Junior Division. Great work, boys!

John Morales visited our club on Friday, April 25th to share with the boys the Champions of Faith video preview. Mr. Morales told the audience how the video was made and what it was like to interview so many major league baseball stars; like Mike Piazza and others.
Over 80 people were on hand to view the movie preview and to enjoy John Morales’ comments about how baseball values are life virtues. Perseverance was a featured virtue.
The boys took home autographed flyers and White Sox or Cubs baseball posters.
The Champions of Faith video is an excellent way for our club to raise extra funds for scholarships, supplies and fun events for our club. We need more dodgeballs and I’d like to have a summertime event for the club.
The videos are available for $20 each. May I ask each family to purchase 3 to 5 videos at our next club meeting and sell the videos to help fund our club’s activities?
A Champions of Faith video would make a great birthday gift for your favorite nephew or little league player. Grandparents are always looking for a good gift for all the boys in the family. Here’s their chance to give a Champions of Faith video this year.
Remember, May 2nd is our final meeting.

The featured event this week was Catechism Challenge. Our friends from the Frankfort ConQuest club met us in battle for a three part competition.
At the end of the evening, Lemont Father/Son Division answered 41 questions to Frankfort’s 29. Lemont Junior Division defeated the Frankfort squad,44 to 37. In the surprise of the evening both Lemont and Frankfort Seniors answered 53 questions correctly for a tied score. Well done boys!

Perseverance is being patient and willing to try again and again when confronted with delays, mistakes or other challenges.
* Spend hours practicing on your music
* Study and work hard to raise your grade
Try out for something you weren't successful at the first time. Remember, “if at first you don't succeed, try, try again.”
This week’s meeting featured a skit competition and a lesson about Sampson and the Philistines. The Junior Division squads created and performed their own skit about the virtue of perseverance or about the hero St. Patrick. The winner of the skit competition with a rousing perseverance skit was the Delta Squad while the Charlie Squad received an honorable mention for their performance.
The Father Son Division enjoyed a lesson from Chris D. on the subject of Sampson and the Philistines. Chris did a great job presenting the bible story plus is brought a poster that he made at home to help explain the story. Finally, he passed out a crossword puzzle for the boys to work on at home.
Point totals for our perseverance campaign are adding up. Most squads have over 10,000 points. Our prize box is full of great gifts for the winners.
Champions of Faith Event:
Invite your friends to join us for the Champions of Faith video presentation on Friday, April 25 at Lemont High School. Admission is no charge and we will have videos available for purchase. Feel free to ask your friends to reserve a seat for this exciting event.

This week the boys competed to see which squad could make the best virtue poster. Here the Father / Son boys show their perseverance and Sampson posters.
The Junior boys featured their lessons about perseverance and holy hero, St. Patrick. Each squad worked for about 45 minutes to create a poster about the life of St. Patrick and the virtue lessons from the previous two meetings.
During Holy Week several club members and their families participated in missionary work in Chicago. Some of our boys went door-to-door at St. Daniel the Prophet and others were downtown conducting a Faith Survey. These boys talked about how they put their faith into action as apostles for Jesus.
Co-worker, J.B. (from France) shared his faith with our Senior boys before leaving for home.

Perseverance is being able to bear difficulties calmly and without complaint.
Try a new sport that is very difficult and you don't give up.
You are at the end of a difficult race and you cross the finish line.
Keep a balanced and controlled temperament, don’t loose your cool.
This week brothers Kevin and Mark lead a lesson about St. Patrick for the Junior division boys. St. Patrick worked long and hard to help the people of Ireland grow closer to God.
Kyle and JB visited our club meeting. Here they’re playing arena football.

Perseverance is commitment, hard work, and endurance. During this Lenten season we are showing our commitment to God in many ways. We may also give up your TV time to spend another hour studying for school. Have you worked hard at your chores this week? You can do it! Keep doing what you promised to do during Lent.
Boys, remember that I will ask you to share what you’ve done at home to show your perseverance the next time we meet. Don”t forget the “dishwasher hands” story.
The Father / Son boys learned about the bible story of Samson and the Midianites from the Book of Judges taught by Michael R. from the Junior division. The Juniors practiced their Catechism to prepare for the upcoming competition with the Frankfort club. The Seniors studied this Sunday’s Gospel story when Jesus healed a blind young man and the reaction to this healing.
We had two new boys attend our club meeting on Friday. Welcome to Brandon G. and Danny S. More boys are invited to join our club. We have room for more.
Father / Son Division needs more members.

ConQuest Father and Son Program (Ages 5-7)
The Father & Son Program provides an opportunity for fathers to participate in their sons' formation and to introduce young boys to God the Creator and Father. Stories of Biblical heroes demonstrate how God's heroes assist Him in His work. The boy is thereby motivated to become one of God's heroes.
The younger boys are learning to know God. This is done through the stories of faith. Contact me about member scholarships for new Father / Son boys joining our club.

Our Awards Night ceremony featured three guest speakers and recognition of several members who significantly contributed to the success of our ConQuest Boys Club.
Dillon C., a minor seminary student at Sacred Heart Apostolic School in Rolling Prairie, IN made a surprise visit and encouraged the boys to do their best in the club.
Judge Tom Murphy of Cook County reminded the boys to be responsible, listen to their parents and don’t get in trouble and wind up in his courtroom.
Also, Fr. Burke Masters, Vocation Director for the Joliet Diocese, shared his vocation story. He went from the baseball diamond to the priesthood and now is inviting young men to explore their own vocation.
Three Senior Division boys were recognized for leading the faith and virtue lesson: Francis S., Patrick, W. and Connor P.
We also had three Junior Division boys who were awarded for their work leading the Father/Son boys’ faith and virtue lesson: John and Patrick K, and Brendon W.
Two squads were recognized for their extra efforts. The Junior Division’s Able Squad received a prize for an outstanding Responsibility poster.
Finally, the Junior Division’s Charlie Squad won the overall Responsibility campaign with over 16,000 ConQuest points.
Great job, everyone.

Responsibility means to not blame others for something that has happened if its not true. Take full responsibility for your own choices.
Responsibility is not finding fault in others.
Don’t blame others.
take care of your own business,
don’t make others do what you are supposed to do,
take full responsibility for your own mix-up.
We may be tempted to find someone else to blame when things go wrong. That is not the Catholic way and that is not the Christian way to behave. We must be strong enough to take responsibility for our own decisions and our own actions.
Speak well of others. Let’s replace blame or finding fault with finding good things to say about another person. We must look for virtuous qualities in others; take it from Philippians Chapter 4:
Find True, Noble, Right, Pure, Admirable, Excellent and Praiseworthy qualities.
These are qualities that we are trying to build up in ourselves and in others.
Awards Night is Coming Next Week!
All families and friends are invited to attend our next club meeting — Awards Night: Responsibility Campaign. We will have two very special guests: Tom Murphy, Circuit Court Judge of Cook County and Fr. Burke Masters, Vocation Director for the Diocese of Joliet.
Bring your friends to the meeting. We will have a video and a lot of fun. Plus, we will be joined by the families of ConQuest Lincolnway boys club. The gym will be full.
Boys, don’t forget that we will be handing out prizes for individual awards and for the squad who has earned the most ConQuest points during our 6-week virtue campaign on Responsibility. Only one more week to go.

Responsibility is a virtue. Do your duty; in the end you are liable to give an account of your actions. Have you fulfilled your duty and the trust someone put in you? Have you met your obligation to take the initiative to do what needs to be done:
as a son in your family
as a student in your school
as a Catholic boy in Church and
as a ConQuest boys club member?
This week the Father/Son boys demonstrated their knowledge of the Catholic faith and learned more about Jonah. Brendon W. had the lesson this week and he covered key concepts:
1. God loves all of the people in the whole world and wants everyone to be saved.
2. When we know that God wants us to do something it is important that we do what He wants us to do.
3. We should love all of the people in the world and teach them about the love and forgiveness of God.
The Junior Division boys learned the rest of St. Peter’s story. Patrick W. took his turn and lead the lesson for the Juniors.
St. Peter's leadership role among the Apostles, lies at the root of the leadership role of the pope among the bishops of the Church. The pope is seen as the successor of Peter as bishop of Rome by all the ancient Christian Churches.
St. Peter had a great responsibility to the first 12 Apostles and to the entire Christian Church. We owe a debt of gratitude to him since the Catholic Church is alive today.
The Senior boys reflected on Jesus’ words, “I have come to set the world ablaze.” They also practiced their Cathecism questions.

Responsibility is a virtue. Each one of us has the responsibility and has personal accountability to form our own conscience. You are solely responsible for the choices in your life; prepare yourself to act with proper guidance so that you choose wisely. You must be able to take responsibility for your actions; don’t make excuses or blame others.
The boys had a great time on Friday evening. The Father/Son division learned about Jonah and the whale. Jonah had a responsibility to go to Nineveh, didn’t he?
The Junior division learned about St. Peter, the rock that the Church was built on. There’s a responsible role to play. We have our own responsibility to build up the Church today, don’t we?
The Senior division learned about having joy and enthusiasm for their mission; to be the best version of themselves (as Matthew Kelly would say). They also talked about organizing the club to sell Lenten calendars. Editor’s note: our first shipment is sold and a second shipment is on the way.

December 14th was Awards Night, the last evening for our Loyalty campaign. The Awards Night featured another great guest speaker: Fr. Matthew Kaderabek, LC.
Fr. Matthew shared his vocation story describing how he came to become a priest plus a story about his military experiences and how loyalty to God and country are important. Remember to never compromise your principles; stay out of the “kill” zone.
The club recognized the Bravo squad from the Junior Division for their poster featuring loyalty of the Holy Family. The Charlie squad was recognized for their skit featuring loyalty to our country.
Other club members were recognized for their individual contributions: Aaron and Sean R. plus Josh and Luke B. each presented a bible story lesson for the boys. Thank you guys for your leadership. You boys did a great job!
Finally, the overall campaign winner was the Benedict squad from the Senior Division. Their point total, 10,775, was the greatest of all. Thank you to Mr. Skrzypczynski for leading the meeting and two other sessions during our Loyalty campaign.

Saturday, December 8th, ConQuest Lemont boys club hosted an all-day outing to Warren Dunes State Park. We also made a visit to the High School seminary, Sacred Heart Apostolic School, in Rolling Prairie, IN.
There were about 20 boys and Dads from Chicago, Frankfort and Lemont ConQuest clubs that joined us for an incredible adventure. We played dodgeball for about an hour after we arrived.
Three boys from the Chicago area shared their vocation stories with us: Shane L., Kevin P. and Dillon C. All three boys were very poised and calm as they described why they are attending Sacred Heart Apostolic School, why they are giving Christ and His Church the first chance in their lives. They also answered questions from our group, questions like, “do you have homework and how often do you get to play at the Dunes?”.
Then we watched a video about the apostolic school and we saw some of the fun that the boys have when they’re studying or having recreation. The pictures from the Dunes got a lot of attention.
Next, we went to Warren Dunes for a snack and fun in the snow. You won’t believe how much snow was there. The sledding was great! And the weather was alright, not too cold or too windy for us.
After the sledding, we enjoyed a campfire lunch of hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, apples, cookies and snack bars with plenty of water to drink. Finally, we toasted marshmallows and enjoyed hot chocolate. If you missed it this time, we hope to see you there next time.

ConQuest Lemont Boys Club hosted an Apostles in Action event on Friday, December 7th. Our club members and visitors traveled to Rush Copley Medical Center to deliver presents and sing Christmas carols for the patients and nurses there, we were 30+ in all.
Apostles in Action is an opportunity for each person to share the love of Jesus Christ with the people we meet. We were able to wish each patient a Merry Christmas and a speedy recovery. Perhaps, in some small way, we brought the joy of the Christmas season to the people we met.
Visitors and guests (children ages 5 to 16) were invited to join in the fun. Everyone of the children had a great time and the nurses complimented the children for their music.
A big THANK YOU goes to Mr. and Mrs. Sutkowski for setting up the event and for hosting the pizza and gift wrapping party. All the boys and parents enjoyed being Apostles in Action.

Loyalty is being true to my family, leaders, friends, community and nation. It is the honor you show that thing/person when they aren't around....when it isn't in your best interest to be loyal to them yet you still are.
This week the boys demonstrated their knowledge of the Catholic faith by competing against each other in a Catechism competition. Each division organized into squads, small teams who earned ConQuest points for correct answers. The competition was fierce as several squads moved higher in the overall campaign point totals after the Catechism competition.
Each squad can earn more points before the end of the Loyalty campaign. This Saturday, the boys will compete in a sports competition at Warren Dunes. Look at our web site for more information.
You can also earn ConQuest points for every Champions of Faith DVD your purchase. There are great Christmas gifts for your friends and family. Earn extra points with The Better Part book of meditations.

Loyalty can be found in the faithful allegiance to one’s government; as in being faithful to the United States of America. Loyalty to the USA was one of the themes the boys used in their skits tonight. They also created skits based on lessons learned from earlier in the virtue campaign: Gideon defeats the Midianites and loyalty within the Holy Family.
The boys performed their skits in front of the other squads at the end of our club meeting. The top skits were Charlie squad (Junior Div.) with their US soldiers loyalty to Country skit, the Able squad (Junior Div.) with their Jesus’ loyalty to Mary skit, and the Delta squad (Junior Div.) with an enthusiastic Star Wars theme.
The boys’ skits were fun, creative and we had good participation from all the groups. The boys did a great job again this week. Thank you to all the Dads who are on hand to help with the boys. You add a lot of value to our club.
Get ready for Catechism Competition in two weeks… The boys will be competing within their own divisions answering faith questions. Only two more meetings to earn valuable ConQuest points during the Loyalty campaign.

Loyalty is devotion and commitment to family and friends, standing by them in times of need. The boys said that they can help their friends when times get tough. They are learning to be holy and to help those they love to be holy too.
This week the boys created posters that demonstrated their understanding of loyalty. We had posters about Saint Joseph and the Holy Family, posters about loyalty family loyalty and posters about friends helping friends.

Loyalty is being faithful to a cause, ideal, custom or institution, as in being faithful to the Catholic Church. The ConQuest boys heard that loyalty means being faithful to the Church just like the Bishops in our area who are tending to all the people in their Diocese.
We can also show our loyalty to the Church by listening and following the writings and teachings of the leader of the Catholic Church, Pope Benedict XVI. He encourages each of us to live a life of unity and charity. Don’t take the easy road but show your loyalty by doing what is right and consistent with the Pope’s teachings.

On Friday evening, we started our second campaign of the program year with the virtue of Loyalty. The boys learned that loyalty is, in part, devotion to a special person. A good example of a person who deserves our loyalty is Jesus Christ. Jesus, as the Son of God and our Savior and Redeemer, is most worthy of our loyal devotion.
The boys said they can show this loyalty in their prayers, by participating well in Mass, reading about Jesus in their Bible, honoring their Father and Mother and behaving as good ConQuest boys. (Editors note, check the commitment card and Home Points worksheet for ideas in this area.)
The boys also see in Superman, Batman and Spiderman qualities of a hero that would inspire loyalty. They see the ideal of doing good deeds for others and helping those who need our help, whether we have super powers or not.

The Awards Night featured two great guest speakers: Mike Cemeno (not pictured), co-founder of Fishers of Men and a representative of SportsLeader, the faith and virtues program for coaches, plus Deacon John Wilkinson (pictured below) from St. James at Sag Bridge parish in Lemont.
Both speakers gave inspirational talks that caused the boys to think about how they are living a courageous life and what more they can do to be leaders in their families, their schools and in their communities.

This week the Father/Son and the Junior boys worked in small teams of 3 or 4 boys to create a poster that illustrated their understanding of the lessons from the previous two meetings: David and Goliath, St. Paul the Apostle, Moses and Pharaoh, etc. Courage is our first campaign theme and many boys remembered best the story of David and Goliath. The boys like the idea of someone more their size showing great courage and defeating an enemy.
Here are two examples from the boys. While each team had only about 30 minutes to create and draw their poster, their work showed great creativity and a clear understanding of their lessons. After the posters were done, each team gave a short presentation explaining what was in their drawing and explained its meaning to the other boys.
At the conclusion of our club meeting, each team had an opportunity to stand in front of all the other boys and present their poster. Overall, the boys did a great job and I’m proud of their work and dedication toward being good ConQuest boys.

Dear Families and Friends,
I would like to introduce to you a new book that you will find beneficial to you and those you know. “The Better Part” was written by Fr. John Bartunek, LC. It is an extensive Christ-centered resource to serve as a daily meditation companion. It offers a detailed and practical guide to Christian meditation and offers 303 mediations on the Gospels. You will not be disappointed.
This book makes a great gift for Christmas, birthdays, confirmations or any other occasion.
The purchase price of the book is $35.95, with every book you buy or sell the school earns a donation. This is a great deal: you promote a great book and the school also benefits from it. My goal is to sell 500 books, which will help us cover the heating bill for one month in the winter.
I have attached a flyer that explains the book together with an order form. Please feel free to distribute it to your relatives and friends.
Thank you for all your help!

This evening, ConQuest Lemont Boys Club held the first club meeting of the 2007-2008 program year. What a great group of boys! In all, 46 boys attended this first meeting with another 30 boys on the roster. That’s the way to use up those snacks. There’s room for many more boys, we’re going for 100. Next time, bring a friend.
For the first six weeks, the ConQuest boys will study the virtue of Courage. The boys will hear examples of Courage and some will practice the virtue by leading the lesson for a younger division.
Tonight, the Father/Son boys learned about David’s courage and how he defeated Goliath. The Junior boys studied courageous biblical figures, like Moses and John the Baptist..
The Senior boys started their leadership role in the club organizing our support for hHome Mission; a Catholic mission trip to Vladivostok ministering to orphaned children.
